Fair Housing

As a recipient of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the City of Rochester must affirmatively further fair housing. This involves a research, public consultation, and analysis process that results in a comprehensive Analysis of Impediments (AI) to Fair Housing. The AI must not only analyze impediments to fair housing faced by Rochester residents but also include concrete action steps intended to reduce any impediments to fair housing.

The federal Fair Housing Act protects against discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and the presence of children. New Hampshire's anti-discrimination protections, which include protections against housing discrimination in renting and purchasing, protect against discrimination on the basis of age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, creed, color, marital status, familial status, physical or mental disability, and national origin.
