When do I have to Register My Dog?

In the State of New Hampshire (NH RSA 466:1), dog licenses are required from May 1 of each year to April 30 of the next year for all dogs 4 months of age or older. The City Clerk's Office begins re-licensing of dogs on the second full week of March each year. Your dog should always be registered annually, even if their rabies vaccination is valid for 3-years.

New dogs and puppies must be licensed with the City within two weeks of receiving their rabies vaccination. Veterinarians are required by State law to inform the City Clerk's Office of all rabies vaccines given to the dogs of Rochester residents.
