The Police Commission was able to conduct their long-awaited in-person citizen and employee recognitions. Bob Brown, a long-time volunteer (40 yrs!) Juvenile Court Diversion Program, many officers, and staff were recognized. In addition to discussing the business of monthly reports, the Police Chief took a unique opportunity to respond to public input concerning the Crises Intervention Team.
The Planning Board reviewed numerous applicants for construction, sub-divisions, and multi-unit development. The Granite Ridge Development District – Residential Zoning change, residential development issues, and building height requirements in the Downtown Commercial zone were also discussed.
At the City Council Meeting, the usual business of reviewing department reports, committee recommendations, authorizing various grants, and budget adjustments was conducted. A resolution for charter amendments was read for the first time and will be set forth for a Public Hearing in July 6, 2021. At the Workshop, special recognition presentation for Joanne Houston and Cheryl Richardson for over 30 years as dedicated educators. And City Council recognized Rochester’s 1st women Mayor, retired / outgoing Mayor Caroline McCarley.
The Rochester Full School Board conducted regular business reports out of committees but also recognized Employees of the Month, and numerous retires. The Superintendent presented the 2021-2022 Covid-19 School Opening Plan.
The Public Works and Buildings Committee reviewed several projects including an overview on the Strafford Square construction project due to start this July.
